Hello, I’m Mr. Darcy. As my name implies, I’m a gentleman, so when I needed to find a new home, the Gentlemen’s Club sounded perfect for me! Unfortunately, my humans’ city neighbors won’t tolerate my powerful voice. I don’t crow all the time, but I do love to celebrate the morning arriving or the sun coming out after a cloudy spell.
I’m a blue Ameraucana, and my gorgeous feathers shine in the sunlight and ruffle in the breeze. My humans raised me by hand, so I am accustomed to being around people. I spent the first weeks of my life indoors, and my sisters and I loved to climb and sleep on my human mother’s legs and shoulders. I’m used to being picked up regularly; in fact, I’m easier to pick up than most of the hens! I also like to eat out of hands—that is, after my hens have had a chance to eat. I enjoy finding snacks for my ladies and calling them over or feeding them from my beak. (In case you’re wondering, my favorite treats are spinach and black soldier fly grubs.) I’m also protective of my flock—once I ran off a neighborhood cat who was scaring the hens. I always sound the alarm enthusiastically when something is amiss.
My dream is to find a rural home with a flock of my own to take care of. I’m the rooster for the job!
P.S. The humans who raised me don’t have kids, so I don’t have any experience being around children.
