My girlfriend and I are absolutely devastated to be writing this adoption post. Our rare, prized and deeply loved Blue Cochin we raised as a chick has turned out to be a rooster. Sadly Denver doesn’t allow roosters so we have to give him up. His name is Peppa and he’s the sweetest chicken I‘bet ever had. We made a point of handling each chick every day so they’d be friendly adults and Pep
pa turned out to be the absolute best. He’s already quite big which we were so proud of and he gets along with pretty much all the chickens except our old hen Tina, a Rhode Island Red which true to the breed is a bit territorial and food protective. I think Tina is this way because she feels threatened by Peppa’s size and how he’s coming to age like the beast (said endearingly) he is.
I personally am inclined to deal with the violations Animal Services might issue if we’re caught with him but don’t think my girlfriend is up for that. Here’s to hoping we can find him a good home. Bonus points if we’re allowed to visit on occasion. He truly is my prized chicken and this absolutely crushes my spirits to be writing this.
He is gorgeous!! We cannot wait to adopt a lovely boy like this!
